About Our Law Firm

Employment, Labor Law & Consumer Protection Firm

Cohelan Khoury & Singer has been a leader in protecting the rights of workers and consumers for over 30 years. We are committed to representing the entire scope of the workforce in prosecuting labor laws in the areas of wages, hours, wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, and all oppressive working conditions in state and federal courts throughout California and the United States. Our clients include low-wage workers and others in agriculture, the garment industry, janitorial and housekeeping, nurses, home health aides, truck drivers, delivery drivers, retail, staffing, temporary employees, energy, factory, technology, and the defense industry. We also take on major companies and corporations in lawsuits against internet fraud, data breach, insurance and banking violations, unfair credit reporting and background checks, deceptive advertising, and misrepresentations in the marketplace.

We also have extensive experience in prosecuting class action cases and have obtained financial recoveries for over one million workers and consumers, and certified classes for tens of millions of consumers. Our firm includes published author Timothy D. Cohelan, author of the first practice guide on class action litigation in California: Cohelan on California Class Actions (1999-2021), as well as Michael D. Singer, major contributing author to the CEB Practice Guide California Wage and Hour Litigation (2010-2021).

Cohelan Khoury & Singer served as co-lead counsel in the groundbreaking California Supreme Court wage and hour case against the Chili’s restaurant chain, Brinker Rest. Corp. v. Superior Court, as lead counsel in the Dilts v. Penske Logistics cases that established some of the most significant wage rights to date for truck drivers, as well as contributing as amicus curiae in virtually every major labor and employment matter in the California Courts of Appeal, California Supreme Court, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. We have settled in excess of 250 class action cases and are among the rare firms that have taken several certified class actions successfully to trial.

Public Interest Work

Our firm has achieved statewide recognition for pro bono public interest work, including successful cases prosecuted on behalf of homeless persons in Hoffmaster v. City of San Diego(1997) 55 Cal.App.4th 1098.

Cohelan Khoury & Singer’s public interest work has been recognized in numerous cases, including that of United States District Court Judge Milton Pollack, a Senior United States District Court Judge for the Southern District of New York, who has publicly stated that he had “seen no similar indication of a public service rendered by any group of lawyers in all the years I have practiced law myself, which is for 38, or the 27 years that I have been on the bench.” Judge Pollack’s comments came in connection with a class action case brought on behalf of victims of health insurance fraud.

Cohelan Khoury & Singer also provides consulting, expert witness testimony, mediation, and resolution of complex litigation. Contact us today to get started.

A Trusted Reputation Unlike Any Other in Our Field

"In the highest tradition of pro bono service to the community, they [plaintiffs' counsel] have waived that right [to attorney's fees]. It is so commendable that their interests in the community so override their personal financial interest that they would voluntarily, not under compulsion, and not under the court's suggestion, that they would voluntarily say ‘we waive our right to attorney's fees’. How marvelous that you would do so.”

– Hon. William McCurine, Jr., United States Magistrate Judge
